Bathroom on a Budget!
How I updated our powder room for under $300
We all enjoy a little refresh now and then. The original powder room wasn't horrible, but I felt like I was missing a fun opportunity to insert my own personality into the space. I wanted to keep as many of the original fixtures and finishes as possible but the wallpaper felt too 1980's for my taste. When I found 4 rolls of this awesome peel and stick wallpaper at Budget Liquidators in Escanaba, it sparked my creativity into gear. Could I do this bathroom on a tight budget?
My first surprise came when I took down the mirror. Apparently the tile didn't extend behind it? No problem... I can work with that. Next surprise came when putting up this particular wallpaper. I've done plenty of peel and stick in the past, but this pattern felt more like plastic. Kind of like the old contact papers. It stretched badly if you had to peel and reposition it. SPOILER ALERT- You will have to reposition it. The static cling of the plastic like wallpaper made it instantly adhere to the wall in all the wrong places. UGH! It took me almost 4 hours to do this tiny little room! But never the less, I did get it done!
I knew if I was going to keep the original fixtures, I would have to find a mirror and accessories that could make the WOW statement I was going for in this little room. I spent a ton of time searching for the perfect mirror to compliment the existing vanity. I wanted something quirky to tie in with the wallpaper but it had to still keep that mid-century feel. Then I remembered seeing all these asymmetrical designs that have been popular as of late. Unfortunately, they were also several hundred dollars which wouldn't work with my budget... BUT THEN, I found it! The perfect compromise between style and price... and of course, it was on Amazon which meant I could have it in just a few days. CLICK TO SEE ON AMAZON
The only other existing things I planned to change out was the faucet and towel bar. I wanted something that would compliment the brushed stainless Hudee Rim around the sink. I liked the clean lines of this faucet and towel bar that were also from Amazon.
When it came to accessories, you know I'm hitting up the thrift store for those! All of the art and accessories were thrifted over a 3 week period. I spent less than $50 total for 2 pieces of framed artwork, a planter (pictured above), a woven tray, and a colorful kinetic sculpture! I'm so thrilled with how it all came together!
The artwork is a Mola from South America! I made an entire video explaining how Mola's are made over on my YouTube channel. Take a look if you are interested! Video: What is a Mola?
